How much does it cost to build a web app in 2026? A fixed-price breakdown

What a first version of a web app costs in 2026, why quotes range from $3,000 to $120,000, and how to get one fixed number instead of an hourly estimate.

Douglas Maringa, September 14, 2026

Ask five developers what your web app costs and you will get five numbers that don't overlap. Here is why, and what a founder should actually expect in 2026.

The three price bands

AI builders and freelancers ($0 to $5,000). Lovable, Bolt and Base44 will get a prototype on screen for the price of a subscription. A freelancer will take it further for a few thousand dollars. What you get is a demo that works while you are the only user. What you usually don't get: security rules on the database, payment failure handling, monitoring, or documentation anyone else can pick up.

Senior developer, fixed price ($6,000 to $12,000). One senior person, one written scope, one number. This band covers a version one your customers can pay for: auth with roles, Stripe with the webhooks wired, an admin dashboard, row-level security, backups, error tracking, deployed on accounts in your name. Most first versions with one core workflow land here.

Agency ($30,000 to $120,000+). A project manager, a designer, two or three developers, meetings. Sensible when you need a large team moving in parallel, expensive when you need a first version and a fast answer.

What actually moves the price

  • User roles. Every additional role (buyer, seller, admin, reviewer) multiplies the screens and the permissions to test.
  • Money moving between users. Marketplaces with payouts cost more than subscriptions, because Stripe Connect, disputes and tax handling are real work.
  • Integrations. Each external API is a place where things fail at 2am. Budget for the failure handling, not just the happy path.
  • AI features. Cheap to demo, expensive to make reliable. Rate limits, cost controls and fallbacks are where the time goes.

How to get a fixed price

Write one page: who the users are, the one thing each of them must be able to do, what "done" looks like, and which integrations you already pay for. Send that to any developer and ask for a fixed number with a written scope. If they can only give you an hourly rate, you don't have a quote, you have an open tab.

At JetBuild a web app version one starts at a fixed $6,000 and most land between $6,000 and $12,000. The number is agreed in writing before anything is built, and it doesn't move unless the scope does.
